Brüssel: 4.6.19 – Security Policy Summit

PAST

We are members of Friends of Europe, so join uns and  Friends of Europe for its annual flagship event of our peace, security and defence programme, the Security Policy Summit “A stronger alliance: The future of European security”, taking place on Tuesday, 4 June 2019 from 09:00 to 13:15 in Brussels.

Happening right after the European elections and coinciding with the 70th anniversary of NATO, this year’s summit will take a forward-looking and thought-provoking look at the future of Europe’s security, particularly at the prospects, benefits and realities of a European strategic autonomy.
What are the prospects for Europe’s strategic autonomy, politically and from a capabilities-perspective?
How would an increased European strategic autonomy affect EU-NATO cooperation?
What are the global perceptions, from allies, neighbours and global powers on Europe’s strengthened defence cooperation?
Looking at current areas of EU-NATO cooperation, the summit will kick off with five simultaneous masterclasses with field experts in cyber security, hybrid threats, counter terrorism and other key security areas. The summit will also evaluate Europe’s aspirations to develop a strategic autonomy and what that conveys. We will also look at the current and potential global effects of an EU with a stronger global presence in the fields of security and defence.
