According to the GDPR , individuals have the following rights:
1. Approval must be granted
Companies may process personal data only if
the person has voluntarily given specific, knowledgeable, and unambiguous consent, either through a statement or through active confirmation.
2. The right of access
Individuals have the right to access their personal information and to know how their data is used by the company that collected the data. The company must provide a copy of the personal information free of charge and in electronic format if the person so wishes.
3. The right to be forgotten
If customers are no longer customers or if they withdraw consent from a company for the use of their personal data, they have the right to have their data deleted.
4. The right to data portability
Individuals have the right to transfer their data from one service provider to another. The transmission must be in a standard and machine-readable format.
5. The right to information
This applies to any collection of data by companies. Individuals must be informed before data is collected. Consumers must agree to the collection of their data and consent must be given explicitly and not tacitly
6. The right to rectification
Individuals can have their data corrected if they are outdated, incomplete or incorrect.
7. The right to restriction
Individuals may request that their data not be further processed. The record persists but is not used.
8. The right to appeal
Individuals have the right to object to the use of direct marketing data. This rule applies without exception. Once the application is submitted, the data may no longer be used. Likewise, this right must be communicated to individuals from the outset.
9. The right to notification
If there is a breach of data security concerning the personal data, the data subject has the right to be informed within 72 hours of the breach becoming known.
With the GDPR , the EU gives individuals, prospects, customers, suppliers and employees more control over their data. The control of the companies that collect and use this data for commercial purposes is thus reduced. It is not the purpose of the regulation to prevent or complicate business. Rather, the storage and use of personal data should become more transparent.
